ICT services and solutions provider, Dimension Data (News - Alert), has introduced global WAN optimization capabilities to its cloud.
The addition of WAN optimization capabilities will help the clients better overcome the latency and bandwidth constraints often associated with public cloud services, explained Steve Nola , CEO of Cloud Solutions Business Unit at Dimension Data in a statement.
Noting that no other cloud provider offers a core that is optimized for acceleration, Nola said that by providing optimal network and cloud performance, in addition to flexibility and ease of use, “we provide organizations the ability to speed the process of migrating their data and applications to the cloud.”
Thanks to the addition of WAN optimization technology in Dimension Data's Managed Cloud Platform (MCP), the company’s clients are experiencing a significant enhancement in the performance of applications across the entire cloud.
Hosted within a Dimension Data or client data center, the MCP comprises cloud infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, virtualization and operating system software; and CloudControl, a cloud management system that provides operational control and automation of cloud resource provisioning, orchestration, administration and billing.
Company officials reported that specifically, companies using the cloud for database replication, file synchronization, backup and disaster recovery between data centers have experienced the greatest improvement in performance.
“WAN optimization has had a dramatic impact on application performance in the enterprise,” said Jim Metzler, founder and vice president of IT consulting company Ashton, Metzler & Associates.
Metzler added that by enabling WAN optimization between its cloud data centers, Dimension Data is offering organizations the ability to increase the performance of key data center applications, such as database replication and backup and recovery, while bringing WAN optimization into the public cloud as a standard feature.
Dimension Data is offering WAN optimization as part of its standard public cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering. It has deployed WAN optimization controller (WOC) appliances at its MCPs in San Jose, Calif. and Ashburn, Va., U.S.; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Sydney, Australia; and Johannesburg, South Africa.
Last month, the company unveiled new managed services offering aimed at moving hard-to-manage IT maintenance agreements into the cloud.
