January 31, 2013Opengear Unveils Lighthouse Central Management System, Update to CMS Software
![]() |
Provider of critical infrastructure management and remote network management solutions, Opengear (News - Alert) recently unveiled its latest central management system (CMS) product offering. Called Opengear Lighthouse, this product allows network engineers and system administrators to centrally manage Opengear infrastructure management and console server appliances — as well as attached IT networking gear in the data center or remote sites.
Lighthouse also includes new hardware offerings and an update to the CMS software package, bringing it to version 4.0, which adds further support to an open, vendor-neutral platform that addresses critical IT management needs.
Opengear Lighthouse is available either as a software appliance for deployment in virtualized environments, or through a choice of two hardware appliance solutions in the form of two new Dell (News
- Alert) rack mounted servers in standard and enterprise models. Either way, the software and hardware options can operate in standalone or redundant configurations, allowing customers to deploy the solution that best fits their environment.
Building on Opengear's cellular Call Home technology, Lighthouse's software offers enhanced management of corporate out-of-band (OOB) networks, allowing customers using Opengear appliances to centrally manage and access their IT infrastructure — whether reachable over the production network, through OOB cellular or through dialup connections.
"Our goal is to help large and small organizations manage their infrastructure in a secure and efficient manner," said Rick Stevenson, CEO of Opengear, in a statement. "Central management is a key requirement for any distributed network. Our new Lighthouse solutions provide better hardware options, new features targeted at improving usability, and an architecture which can scale from small to large organizations with many remote sites. Our partnership with Dell provides an improved quality solution and aligns with our strategy of providing best in class network infrastructure management."
Last week, Opengear was selected by the system administrators of COSMOS@DiRAC, the U.K. National Cosmology Supercomputer, to provide secure remote management. Specifically, they selected Opengear's IM4200 series appliance, which offers reliable OOB access to an array of critical infrastructure at the COSMOS site.
