For the ordinary resident, a power outage means lack of electricity, cable TV, and perhaps heat or air-conditioning. For an IT department, data center outages can amount to thousands of dollars lost in revenue and productivity, as well as damaged data and stakeholder trust, and regulatory and legal repercussions.
Over the past several years, 95 percent of businesses in the U.S. have experienced at least one unplanned data center outage, according to a 2011 study. Not surprisingly, it’s inadequate practices and investments that are hindering the prevention of appropriate response time to outages.
Of course, there are pre-emptive measures that IT departments can take to stop an outage from occurring in the first place, which explains why the remote monitoring and management (RMM) market, and demand for out-of-band management solutions, continues to experience significant growth. An out-of-band management solution provides managers with full control over the entirety of their data center infrastructure and distributed networks, even in instances when in-band and IP-based management strategies have failed.
A company specializing in out-of-band management products and services, Opengear (News - Alert) boasts a robust portfolio of out-of-band management products that provide a secondary path to a remote site, and to the devices present at those sites, when the primary network is down. In just a week, Opengear will head to Miami, Fla., for ITEXPO (News - Alert) East 2012, the world’s largest communications conference taking place Jan. 31 to Feb. 3.
In addition to interacting with decision-makers from multiple industries and spreading the word on its RMM solutions, Opengear told TMCnet this week that MSPWorld, a collocated event with ITEXPO, is the perfect forum for presenting its solutions. Since its inception, MSPWorld has been the only event with a single, vendor-agnostic focus of supporting managed service providers and their respective ecosystems.
“We are hoping to educate and inform attendees about the benefits of having a good Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) solution in place – especially in these trying economic times,” Todd Rychecky (News - Alert), vice president of Sales for North & South America, Opengear, told TMCnet this week. “Opengear’s ‘Anytime, Anywhere, Secure Remote Access’ solutions allow IT and OT staff the ability to be “virtually there’ at remote site locations.”
“Opengear products offer customers a marriage of the information technology worlds with the operational technology worlds – all with superior security, flexibility, manageability, customization, out-of-band capabilities, and support for open standards that our customers highly value at a very reasonable price,” Rychecky continued.
ITEXPO East and MSPWorld attendees alike will also have the opportunity to preview Opengear’s newest product, which the company will be announcing at the show. Stay tuned to TMCnet for on-site, up-to-the-minute coverage of this year’s conference!
